1. Snails are sacred here and represented in all forms, as snails are used in many dishes. Because it rains a lot, there are also lots of snails. As long as there are snails, they will not starve here and will eat them all. But they keep coming. I’ve lived here for a week and was wondering how mills and snails are connected. But they’re not.
2. In Badalucco (ca. 10km down the hill), there’s a pipe master and a maker of traditional stringed instruments. A workshop and shop in one.
3. This gas boiler thing – until now I’ve had hot water all the time, because I did what my brother told me.. turn the faucet toward hot a little more than halfway and you can take a nice shower, no problem.
4. I’m exploring my surrounding. Taking 8,000 to 23,000 steps per day. One day I returned from Triora on foot, but no on the footpath along the side of the mountain, but on the roadway. I’ll leave the mountain road for others to discover!
5. We swam in the small local lake. On the paid beach in San Remo we were able to use an umbrella and beach platform for about two hours without paying, because we didn’t understand how the system works. Next, I took a cabin, umbralla and platform at the paid beach in Arma di Taggia. Later I went to the strip of free beach. On Sundays, the beaches are very full and most of the time there is no space on the paid beach. And on the public beach, they fight over every rock where they could put their clothes.
6. The pipe maker in Badalucco is supposedly very old, and that's why the shop is usually closed. But the carpenter in San Remo said that the pipe-maker in Badalucco is his father-in-law, and I might get a foot in the door today. The old town part of Badalucco was dirtier than the other mountain towns, but the old part was very awesome.
7. I went to Triora and the museums there. I only saw some metal locks and the museum attendent only spoke French. Today I started looking for woodworking masters in the vicinity. In San Remo, I found a master who would to able to talk with me every Friday night from 6 pm, but there was no way for me to get back to Molini di Triora at time. Well, I'll see if I can find a way to spend one night in San Remo.
